Are you ready to adopt?

If after reading our information you are still interested in adopting an Old English Sheepdog, then you are ready to move on to the next phase. If you can provide that special kind of home that these dogs deserve, we will do our best to match you with a dog that will be a wonderful addition to your family. We are looking for dog lovers willing to give a home to a needy OES rather than a home that merely wants to acquire a dog.

The average age of a dog surrendered for rescue is between 18 months and 6 years. Some are older and on rare occasions a puppy is available. If you prefer a puppy, we have on file the names of reputable breeders who adhere to an Old English Sheepdog Club of America Code of Ethics. The Code requires that both parents of a litter have an OFA number (a national registry for dogs clear of hip dysplasia) and that both parents of a litter be cleared of eye defects by a board certified ophthalmologist. We urge you to visit both parents.

Temperament is of great concern. All Rescue dogs are temperament tested, neutered, wormed, immunized, and examined by a veterinarian. Most of the dogs that come into the program are from home situations where there may have been a move, divorce, allergies, problems with small children, or not enough time provided for the dog to understand appropriate rules and boundaries. The heatlh, care, and grooming of Old English Sheepdogs are also factors which should be considered before deciding to adopt.

We are a group of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing these wonderful dogs placed in loving homes and given a second chance at a happy life. If you are patient with our process, we will strive to provide you with a devoted, loving companion -- an Old English Sheepdog.
