We are looking for dog lovers willing to give a home to a needy Old English Sheepdog rather than a home that merely wants to acquire a dog.

The average age of a dog surrendered for rescue is between 18 months and 6 years. Some are older and on rare occasions a puppy is available. If you prefer a puppy, we have on file the names of reputable breeders who adhere to an Old English Sheepdog Club of America Code of Ethics. The Code requires that both parents of a litter have an OFA number (a national registry for dogs clear of hip dysplasia) and that both parents of a litter be cleared of eye defects by a board certified ophthalmologist. We urge you to visit both parent.

We primarily match dogs to the applications. Please get your application into us first. We may have dogs in network, not listed on this site that are not published. If we can’t find a match for the dog from our current applicaitons, we then post the dog on our website. Then, if the dog has not found any matches we may extend our search for a good home to petfinder.com . If you have put in an application with us and you have not heard from us, after 3 months, it might be worth your while to submit a new application. We go through periods of no dogs to a bunch dogs. Our fosters are given first choice on the dog should they happen to not be able to part with the new foster dog. It’s only fair and we understand how hard it is to part with the new dog in the family. Many of our fosters do understand that they have enough dogs and are just helping the dog in the interim and helping us figure out the personality and needs of the dog.

Temperament is of great concern. All Rescue dogs are temperament tested, neutered, wormed, immunized, and examined by a veterinarian. Most of the dogs that come into the program are from home situations where there may have been a move, divorce, allergies, problems with small children, or not enough time provided for the dog to understand appropriate rules and boundaries. The health, care, and grooming of Old English Sheepdogs are also factors which should be considered before deciding to adopt.
