Adopted! Bear now Albus Congratulation to The Henry’s in Greenback, TN who adopted Bear (now Albus) early August.   Bear was a turn in from a home with young kids.  Having 2 toddlers under age 5 and a dog under 2 was just too much.  Unfortunately the kids didn’t respect the dogs boundaries when it came to meal time so growling took place.  In addition, he started spending more time outdoors or in a crate because they simply didn’t have time for him.   The Henry’s were ready for a sheepdog. After 3 years without an animal this home was ready for some sheepie love again.   Bear has dog friends to play with at neighbor homes and a big back yard now.  He is spoiled now and the sole source of attention. This family is now complete!

Adopted! Daisy now Maddie  Daisy was dropped off in Picayune, MS at a shelter by a breeder who said she had to leave town.  Sadly, we aren’t even sure that Daisy was her name.   And no information was provided on her accurate age or any vet records.  We do know she was used as a breeder dog though!   Just remember sometimes when you buy a dog from breeders, they treat the dogs that produced all their money making puppies with complete disrespect when they are done with them.  We believe Daisy was 11 years old.  We sent sweet Hillary, who had an application in with us to pick the dog up from the rescue/shelter volunteer that met her half way.  After a day, we were informed that Daisy had some tumors that needed attending to and she had a  slight bloody discharge as well from her uterus.  After a bath and full spay and tumor removal she was doing much better.   Hillary now has her best buddie by her side every chance she is not at work.  Daisy’s hair has grown out a bit and she is looking gorgeous now and finally being treated like a best friend instead of a money making machine.   We are so thrilled Daisy now Maddie and Hillary found each other.  They are happily living together in Mobile, Alabama.

Adopted! Boo now Earl  Boo was turned in from a Louisiana couple who were no longer able to take care of their growing baby boy.  Each month he was getting bigger and bigger and the owner recently was in a wreck and dealing with back issues and not working.  So as much as they had spoiled him, they came to the difficult decision to give him up so he could get the home he needed.  Boo made the trip to Atlanta and was in foster care until our treasurer came to visit me (the Placement Director) and she met Boo.   Our new treasurer, Tracy recently lost one of her pack and has a younger dog and a sweet senior, but typically ran a pack of 3 dogs.  Tracy has training background and wanted a dog to do coursing and agility which she enjoys doing with her sheepdogs travelling around to weekend events.  When she met Boo she realized he might learn well and it was a good time for her pups to get a new brother (she normally had all girls).   Oh boy has Boo now Earl had the time of his life.  He plays daily with his sister Savannah and has already been to some weekend coursing events.   Tracy and Earl and Savannah and Sophie have a wonderful life ahead of them.   Earl now lives in Smyrna, Georgia.

Adopted! Tofu now Fozzy  Tofu was found in middle TN wandering the streets by a very nice couple.  After they looked for the owners, they contacted our rescue because while they wanted to keep him their lease would not allow animals.  We had a family in Gadsen, AL that had been on our rescue application list for some time and she kept in touch frequently.   When I mentioned the dog, they offered to pick him up and foster him.  An additional very exhaustive search was continued to try to find the owners, but we couldn’t find any leads.  The foster home had one other dog in their home and wanted to find out how he would do.  Well this fella had many issues, but played well with their dog.  However,  he was a big resource guarder, he was difficult to walk past other dogs on walks, he was uncontrollable for shaving and vetting and needed to be sedated.  He was virutally a wild man and sometimes they felt uncomfortable with him in their home.  They found a wonderful trainer near Gadsen and we paid for him to be in a 2 week intense training program.   Boy did we get our money’s worth.  This dog went from a wild uncontrollable crazy and sometimes mean dog to an obedient dog that enjoyed being directed by his owner.   He learned how to wear a muzzle without issues (but no longer needs it) and learned vets and groomers aren’t as bad as he originally thought.  After all these changes our foster home decided he was definitely going to stay and they have never looked back.   Training is so important in the life of a young dog and we want to encourage everyone who gets a dog to do enjoy a training course together to create a positive bond.   Fuzzy is very much an important part of the Barriers home now and the home is happy and balanced now!
